Don’t Forget Your Jimjams! 4:30 P.M. in the Church
We put children at the heart of what
Don’t Forget Your Jimjams! (DFYJ) has been designed with the needs of young families in mind. We aim to make all that we do accessible for all, from the youngest to the oldest. It’s for all ages, but we unapologetically focus on the needs of young children. That doesn’t mean it’s just a Sunday school with adults included. We want to give people of all ages the opportunity to pray, have fun and enjoy being together with each other as well as learning. Learning is a part of it, but above all it’s about everyone from 9 months to 90 years worshipping together. We believe wholeheartedly in the spiritual value and significance of play for all. We put children at the heart of what we do because they are important and what’s more, they have much to teach adults about the freedom to be inquiring in a playful and imaginative way.
Our ethos is bring-and-share. We’re aiming for this time together to less and less about what the church ‘puts on‘ for people and more and more about what we as a group of people, young and old, bring and share with each other. That doesn’t mean you can’t come and play if you don’t feel you have anything to offer. Just bring yourself, that will be a tremendous gift to us all.
Our approach is most inspired by ‘Godly Play’. We often share in simple prayers together, sometimes using our bodies as well as our voices, and share some simple, interactive songs together. Those who can join in with clearing away and packing up at the end too.
A number of families have found this a very relaxed and engaging way to participate in Christian worship and community. Many of the parents have commented that they can relax about what their children are doing in a way that they never could in a more formal church setting.
Why not come along and try it out for yourself? We’d love to see you!
